LESLEY BODZY

Lesley Bodzy, who divides her time between New York City and Houston, is interested in the formless and surreal. Her paintings and sculptures explore the themes of absence and presence, hiding and revealing. “My work is meant to be both concealing and revealing at the same time,” explains Bodzy.

Bodzy’s works invite the viewer along a pathway of both the obvious and the implied. They often reveal a sense of playfulness and encourage interaction from the viewer.

Bodzy uses paint as a malleable material with which to cover, fold, and disguise. She highlights the attributes of the paint while allowing the mystery and meaning to emanate from the hidden object.

She collects found objects and uses everyday materials in experimental ways. “I am interested in discovering new processes and new materials,” she says. “With each piece, I embark upon a journey of discovery, for myself and for the viewer.”

Lesley Bodzy currently a 2021 MFA candidate at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is represented by Linda Matney gallery in Williamsburg,VA, Emerge Gallery in Saugerties, NY and Palix Fine Arts in Houston.

Her work has been featured at Site: Brooklyn, Chashama, and Flatfile in New York City, as well as the Mattatuck Museum in Connecticut, the Susquehanna Art Museum in Harrisburg, PA, the Meadows Gallery in Tyler, TX.
