This summer John Lee Matney, director of Linda Matney Gallery in Williamsburg, Virginia, curate Locus featuring the work of Dana Jo Cooley (Athens, GA) Andy Cherewick (Athens, GA), Brian Hitselberger (Athens, GA, and Assistant Professor of Art at Piedmont College), Christi Harris (Newport New, VA), and Michael K. Paxton (Chicago, IL).
The exhibition will be on view May 10-June 25 with a reception on June 10 to coincide with the Northeast Georgia Arts Tour. Matney’s Locus is part of the Northeast Georgia Arts Tour. A sponsor of the event, the Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art will hold special Sunday hours from 12:00 pm.m-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 11.
Works will include painting and sculpture. Matney’s selection reflects his interest in “how grids, clusters and other aggregations inform experiences and impact the perceptions of viewers to reveal the artists' intentions, creating dialogue within and beyond the gallery space. The 'locus' in this context is the point or set of points where significant forces are mapped out within works of art as well as how they relate to the museum walls."
