Michael Antony Brennan Suter AKA Catfishman or Michael Catfish Man Suter. Michael began painting in earnest in 1992 after moving to Athens Georgia. He is self taught and a Raw Outsider Painter who defies easy categorization. Catfishman paintings are rough primitive pieces with expressive figures and strong color that are made using house paint on found rough panels. Born in Cambridge England his mother was Danish Irish and descended from Brennan King of the Danes and his father was from an old Virginia family with history. With a unique approach to life in the extreme Michael's past is a long list of exotic and domestic travels and ventures, near death experiences, metaphysical revelation, working with Royalty and peasants, standing against attacks from pimps, gangs and villagers, cobras, and millions of Indian army ants. He has fallen on Yosemite Falls and rode down a mountain in a car with no brakes. Michael most admired George Orwell, particularly the book Down and Out in Paris and London and used Orwell's adventures as his inspiration during much of his life. Catfish Man paintings are subconscious expressions that resonate with the primal intuitive nature of the viewer. Considered an artists artist Michael's paintings are collected by other artists and hang in many influential collections.
